Here is the money found on the ground annual update.

Money found on the ground annual update
MFOG Annual Update

This year's total is £16.16 which is a decrease on last year. That's hardly a surprise, but I think given that I was in the house for the whole of April, May and most of June it's not as bad as we might expect. Previous totals are below.

There were no remarkable coin finding events this year. There were 325 coins found in total which is an increase on last year, surprisingly.

Four pound coins have been found which is a decease on last year and a rate one every 3 months. Two 50p pieces were found this year. Foreign coins amounted to 11c Euro and 11c US which is a marked decrease on last year, but with no tourists in the country, not surprising.

In previous years the route to work/university etc has been varied. The daily journey from 2011 to 2017 was identical. However in 2018 I changed journey and walked the length of Shields Road to the subway station. In addition, I am also hanging out on Buchanan St at lunchtime. This year however, not only did I worked from home for six months, but when I did start back in the office I walked all the way into the office. I have also been taking longer local walks. It is no longer the case that I find a coin every week or in this year, even every month.

What can we conclude? This year has been very unusual. There is probably no sense in drawing any comparisons. But I will say that the banks have been putting increased pressure on businesses to take contactless payments and to not accept cash payments despite there being no real evidence that coronavirus survives on coins.

Additional bonus analysis. The 20p analysis shows a general slight upward trend, but a decrease on last year.
